🚨 CUSTOMER INFORMATION – WOOD PACKAGING & ISPM 15

We would like to remind all customers importing goods into the UK of the importance of ensuring that Wood Packaging Material (WPM) complies with ISPM 15 requirements.

Forestry authorities carry out inspections of timber, wood products and wood packaging material at UK borders. During a recent proactive inspection at Purfleet, wood packaging on a trailer was found to be non-compliant because it did not carry the required ISPM 15 mark.

📦 What is ISPM 15?

ISPM 15 is an international standard covering wood packaging material such as:

• Pallets
  • Wooden crates
  • Cases and boxes
  • Dunnage
  • Wooden packing used to secure cargo

Where applicable, wood packaging entering the UK must meet the relevant ISPM 15 requirements and carry the appropriate mark.

⚠️ Non-compliance can cause delays and additional costs

Where non-compliant wood packaging is identified, the authorities may issue a PH3 Statutory Notice requiring the packaging to be dealt with appropriately.

This can include destruction by burning at the importer’s premises, with photographic evidence required, or disposal through an approved waste management company with a certificate of destruction.

Customers may then have a limited period to provide the required evidence to the authorities.
