We are currently looking for a

Transport Planner

 

Based at: Aylesham, Canterbury | Reporting to: TRANSPORT MANAGER

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced transport planner to help develop our growing business. The year 2016 will be a further year of success following our successful relocation programme to our bespoke depot, at Aylesham Industrial estate, enhanced by better operational and logistical advantages.

Job role

Working closely with the Transport manager the position of transport planner holds responsibility for ensuring all group contracts are properly serviced using correct vehicles. In addition to this transport planner will be responsible for the efficient routing and recording of all vehicle movements, issuing driver instructions, monitoring driver performance and liaising with customers.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day running of the transport function.
  • Support the business with all transport activity, resolving any issues promptly.
  • Management and updating of the transport schedules and transport diary.
  • Securing outside sub-contractors and agency drivers when resources are at capacity.
  • Operate within a shared out of hours calls rota to resolve problems.
  • Liaise and communicate with other depots, nationally and internationally to ensure logistical and transport requirements are being met for all contracts, and that all opportunities are being realised and maximised.
  • Responsible for communicating requirements to depot staff and producing clear and accurate workloads in a timely manner, along with the day-to-day management of drivers.

 

Person specification

Must be prepared to work flexibly as part of a team. The following specific skills and experience are required:

  • Experienced in all aspects of goods vehicle operations.
  • Knowledge of tachograph procedures and other legal obligations is expected.
  • Demonstrable route planning and a geographical knowledge of the country.
  • A working knowledge of load restraint procedures is an advantage.
  • Essential literacy and numeracy skills.
  • A commitment to delivering the best possible customer service.
  • Required to liaise with colleagues and be prepared to cover for absence.
  • Work with supervision but be prepared to use own initiative.
  • Is readily adaptable to changes in working procedures and practices.
  • Opportunities to improve your own skills.
